What We Treat
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar symptoms show up differently in everyone, but they often leave the same imprint: unpredictability, exhaustion, and a sense that life keeps slipping out of your control.

Understanding Bipolar Disorder
At PSI, we offer structured, evidence-based care for people living with bipolar disorder, including those who’ve tried medication, therapy, or both, and still feel stuck. Whether you're seeking stability, open to new possibilities, or just ready to better understand what’s really going on, we’ll meet you there.
Bipolar disorder affects nearly 3% of U.S. adults, often beginning in late adolescence or early adulthood. While it affects people of all genders and backgrounds, it’s frequently misdiagnosed, or misunderstood entirely.
The condition involves recurring episodes of elevated and depressed mood. These swings can feel destabilizing, making it hard to maintain relationships, stay employed, or feel like yourself. There are several types:
- Bipolar I: At least one manic episode, often with depressive episodes.
- Bipolar II: At least one hypomanic and one major depressive episode without full mania.
- Cyclothymic disorder: Ongoing shifts between hypomanic and depressive symptoms over two years.
Typical symptoms may include:
Racing thoughts or restless energy
Fatigue or low mood
Sleeping too much or too little
Irritability or impulsive behavior
Suicidal ideation or hopelessness
Difficulty functioning in work or relationships
Standard care often involves mood stabilizers and psychotherapy. But many people still find themselves in cycles that feel unmanageable. If that’s where you are, you’re not alone. And there are other options.
How PSI Approaches Bipolar Disorder
We don’t offer hype or “miracle cures.” We offer real, medically supervised care—designed for people who’ve already tried the usual paths and need something different.
At PSI and TRIP Clinics, your care is delivered by licensed clinicians, grounded in research, and structured for safety:
- Evidence-based psychotherapy
- Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP)
- Ongoing clinical trials for innovative psychedelic treatments (pending regulatory approval)
- Medication Management
We know that having bipolar doesn't mean you are broken or need to be fixed. We support people navigating complex stories—with care that’s structured, human, and safe.
Care Options at PSI
Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy
For some individuals with bipolar depression, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy can offer new hope — especially when traditional meds haven’t helped.
- Sessions are therapist-supported, with preparation and integration therapy built in.
- Treatment is delivered in structured phases, and always includes follow-up care.
- At PSI, ketamine is administered in-office via intramuscular injection in combination with psychotherapy and monitoring by licensed healthcare professionals
Note: KAP may not be appropriate for all individuals with bipolar disorder, especially those with recent manic episodes. We’ll help assess your fit safely and transparently.
Clinical Trials
PSI conducts clinical trials in collaboration with top research sponsors. While we don’t currently offer trials for bipolar disorder, future studies may include:
- Neuroplasticity-targeting compounds
- Psilocybin analogs
- N,N DMT and 5-MeO-DMT
Our trials are designed with patient dignity in mind. That means:
- Informed consent and detailed protocols
- Diverse, representative recruitment
- Integration support and follow-up care
