What Is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is an interpersonal, talk-based treatment that helps people increase self-awareness, understand emotional patterns, and develop healthier ways of coping and connecting. At PSI TRIP Clinics, our psychotherapy services are relational, transpersonal, and trauma-informed. That means we treat you as a whole person — mind, body, and spirit — not just a diagnosis.

We offer several established psychotherapy modalities, including:

  • Transpersonal Therapy: A holistic, integrative approach that honors the spiritual and existential dimensions of healing alongside the psychological.
  • Supportive Psychotherapy: Focuses on emotional regulation, social support, and building self-esteem and inner stability.
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT): Centers on improving relationship patterns and resolving interpersonal conflict.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy: Helps surface and work through unconscious patterns and past experiences that shape current behaviors.

Many of our clients combine psychotherapy with other services like medication management, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, or psychedelic integration.

Who May Benefit from Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is designed for anyone seeking to understand themselves better and improve their behavior, relationships or emotional well-being. It may be especially valuable for individuals experiencing:

  • Persistent sadness,  emotional numbness or significant emotional dysregulation
  • Anxiety, intrusive thoughts or excessive worry
  • Relationship dissatisfaction, distress or conflict
  • Traumatic stress, PTSD, or community trauma
  • Spiritual, existential, or identity-related distress
  • Life transitions, prolonged grief or burnout
  • A desire for personal growth, insight  and deeper meaning

We also welcome those who have lost hope yet are still in need of something that feels aligned, structured, and supportive. Our care is inclusive, trauma-informed, and LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC affirming.

At PSI TRIP Clinics, your needs, goals and preferences are prioritized every step of the way. Your full understanding and consent are central to successful progress. You can pause, stop, or shift focus at any time and your therapist will check in with you regularly throughout the course of treatment to assure that your voice and needs are heard.

Remote Options

Psychotherapy sessions may be available to patients within California via our HIPAA-protected telehealth platform for your convenience, while some specialty modalities (e.g., psychedelic integration) may occur in person.

Clinical Trials & Future Innovations

While psychotherapy is an established and effective treatment, PSI’s TRIP Clinics are also on the frontlines of psychedelic clinical research. We're actively involved in trials exploring how LSD, psilocybin, DMT and other neuroplastogenic compounds may enhance therapeutic outcomes in the future.

Our research-forward model means your care is informed by the latest science and you may have the option to participate in upcoming studies, if eligible.

FAQs

Is this covered by insurance?

For some types of health insurance, you may be able to get reimbursed for the cost of your visit, though this is not guaranteed; you should check the out-of-network benefits of your insurance policy for further details. After your visit, you can request a receipt (or “superbill”), which details procedure codes, diagnosis, and fees paid. This superbill can then be submitted to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement to you. See “Financial Transparency” below.

How long will I be in therapy?

It varies. Some people benefit from a few months, others choose longer-term work. You set the goals and we adjust together.

Can I combine psychotherapy with other PSI services?

Yes. Many clients pair psychotherapy with ketamine treatment, medications, or integration support.

Is this like "talk therapy"?

Yes, it can be, but it can also involve body-based techniques, mindfulness, guided reflection, and spiritual exploration, tailored to what works best for you.

Financial Transparency
