Psychedelic Integration Therapy

Psychedelic experiences can stir powerful insights, emotions, and sometimes uncertainties. Whether profound or perplexing, these moments don’t always translate easily into daily life. That’s where psychedelic integration therapy comes in.

At PSI and TRIP Clinics, we support individuals in exploring their experience, what changed, and what to do next, all in a non-judgmental, compassionate setting.

What Is Psychedelic Integration Therapy?

Psychedelic integration therapy is a non-judgmental, collaborative process that supports individuals in reflecting on — and making meaning from — non-ordinary states of consciousness.  It is an essential way to safely metabolize the emotional, cognitive, and somatic material that arises during altered states.

Our licensed, trauma-informed therapists use a combination of relational talk therapy, mindfulness, somatic approaches, and creative modalities like journaling and art to help patients:

  • Make sense of what happened during the experience
  • Utilize insights and navigate unresolved tensions
  • Reconnect with core values and inner wisdom
  • Integrate new awareness into everyday life and relationships

We also emphasize education and harm reduction, especially for those who may be considering future psychedelic use or who are processing difficult, confusing, or destabilizing experiences.

Who May Benefit From Psychedelic Integration Therapy?

This service is appropriate for anyone who has had a psychedelic experience and wants help processing and exploring the experience. You might benefit from integration therapy if you:

  • Feel overwhelmed, confused, or emotionally unsettled after an experience
  • Had a powerful insight or realization and aren’t sure how to apply it going forward
  • Experienced distressing imagery, ego dissolution, or a traumatic memory resurfacing
  • Simply want space to reflect and process with an experienced guide

Whether your experience was recent or occurred months (or years) ago, integration support can help you transform moments of altered consciousness into meaningful, sustainable growth opportunities.

Flexible Treatment Structure

Integration therapy may consist of one session to process a single event or evolve into ongoing care, depending on your needs. Some people use it as a bridge between ketamine treatment sessions; others seek it after other, non-clinical experiences.

Sessions may include:

  • Talk therapy and reflective inquiry
  • Somatic grounding and mindfulness practices
  • Exploration of dream or symbolic content
  • Values-based goal setting

Trauma-Informed, Patient-Centered Approach

Psychedelic journeys are not always inherently healing, and the context, set, and setting they are used within can greatly impact their outcome. At our TRIP Clinics, we are aware and educated on the ways social, political and societal values around psychedelics and other drugs can cause different risks for different identities.

We prioritize ongoing informed consent, autonomy, and psychological safety. Your understanding and agreement are the foundation of your care plan. We can also offer HIPAA-protected telehealth options for those seeking integration support throughout California who are unable to make it into our clinics for care.
